Special section: Semantic grid and knowledge grid

(1) China launched a three-million-dollar national basic research program project “Fundamental Theory, Model and Method of Semantic Grid” in 2003 (www.semgrid.net). (2) The Future Generation Computer Systems published the 1st journal special issue on semantic grid and knowledge grid in 2004. Its editorial addresses the notion of Social Grid, Semantic Resource Grid, Knowledge Grid and relevant key research issues [3]. (3) The first monograph on the Knowledge Grid was published in 2004 [4]. (4) In November, 2005, the 1st International Conference on Semantics, Knowledge and Grid was held in Beijing, China (SKG2005, www.culturegrid.net/SKG2005). SKG has become a series international forum across three areas: semantic computing, knowledge networking and grid computing. (5) By June 30, 2006, there were 47,000,000 entries under keywords “knowledge grid” in google.com, 431,000 entries under the keyword “knowledge grid” in scholar.google.com, and 47 papers were indexed under the “knowledge grid” topic in the SCI (Science Citation Index). Sorted by the number of times cited in SCI under the “knowledge grid” topic, Refs. [2] and [1] take the first and second place. The semantic grid had 3,530,000 entries in google.com, 25,000 entries in scholar.google.com, and 38 papers in SCI under “semantic grid” topic.
